EXCITING NEWS FOR PLEASANT HILL CEMETERY

We have received a generous donation that combined with other families’ donations will now allow us to address 2 major capital projects to improve the cemetery. The first project will improve the safety of the cemetery road. We contracted with an arborist who confirmed that there are several trees that need to be removed or trimmed. The trees have been cut and small replacement trees will be installed in the near future. See photos.
The second project was to install a fence at the top part of the cemetery. This fence replaces the deteriorated white vinyl fence and will provide a border between the cemetery and the private property next door. It is a 4’ high split rail fence. See photos.
A sincere thank you for all your donations which provided funding for these projects to take place!!!

Cemetery History

The first burial in what is now known as Pleasant Hill Cemetery is believed to be Sarah Elizabeth Barton Drake who died during the civil war around 1865. She is the wife of Hezekiah Drake. The land where the cemetery is located was originally owned by the Drake family and was once known as the Drake cemetery.  The community was first known as Delmont and later as Pleasant Hill, which was the name of the nearby 1839 Summer Estate of William Johnstone (a South Carolina Rice Planter). The Johnstone Pleasant Hill Estate was adjacent to his father’s Beaumont Estate. Read more:
